PAULA RAE GIBSON & KIT DOWNES - EMOTION MACHINE - ALBUM ANNOUNCEMENT

We are delighted to announce the release of 'Emotion Machine', the first collaboration between Paula Rae Gibson, a prolific artist renowned for her photography, lyricism and ethereal vocal work, and highly acclaimed composer and pianist Kit Downes. Downes’ minimal, abstract arrangements of sombre piano meditations and Arthur Russell-esque cello experimentation blend with Gibson’s idiosyncratic vocals to create a sense of emotional urgency - a raw, distressing honesty is prevalent throughout the album. Drawing inspiration from Delta Blues, Icelandic Art Rock and Early Music, the sonic world created is both inviting and menacing, giving the perfect template for Gibson’s lyrics of love, loss and the various fuels of the Emotion Machine.

This is the fifth album from Paula Rae Gibson; having previously collaborated with Will Gregory of Goldfrapp, and well known figures in the jazz world such as Ivo Neame and Martyn Baker. Paula has approached music with the bold expressiveness that her photography is known for, ranging from bossa-inspired jazz pieces to free form experimentation. On Emotion Machine a new level of sonic abstraction is achieved; casting aside the more traditional jazz structure her earlier work had been based around, dissonant drones and ominous sound design cast a spectre over this album. Space is left for expressions to linger, in what is clearly Gibson’s most abstract work to date.

Most of the instrumentation on the album is the work of Kit Downes; a London based composer, pianist and organist who has worked with the likes of Squarepusher, Seb Rochford and Aidan O’Rourke. A BBC Jazz Award winning, Mercury Music Award nominated solo recording artist for ECM Records, Downes’ reputation speaks for itself - this recording marks his first journey into production, and a return to his childhood instruments; the piano and cello. The blending of his instrumentation with the abstracted arrangement of Gibson’s vocals is a testament to his skill as a composer, the broad sonic spectrum of the record underlining his talent as a producer.

Further contributions come from Tom Challenger (saxophone), Ruth Goller (double bass) and James Maddren (drums). Each piece of music will be accompanied by a video produced by Gibson, moving the concepts of the work beyond the sonic realm.

The album will be available on vinyl and all digital platforms on November 2nd.

“low-frequency avant-rock music that joyously defies genre” Anon

“Sleazier than Waits out on the pull with the Fat White clan, somewhere between The Amazing Snakeheads and Lurie’s art-jazzers The Lounge Lizards.” - [NME]

"…a shedload of weirdness, genre hybridity, off-kilter grove and infinite rock ‘n’ roll swagger… …‘Bunny’ continues the trajectory of their work to date, grinding out low-slung backstreet dirt that throws the best bits of Foetus, PIG, Nick Cave, and Gallon Drunk into the blender. And what a belting job they do of it." [Whisperin and Hollerin]

SOCCER96 - NEW VIDEO - 'HARMONIOUS MONK'

On the eve of dropping their new album 'REWIND' the synth and drums duo SOCCER96 have a new video, a very trippy and brilliant video animation by Simon Eden... kind of a choreographed cyber-boogie on moving geometric parts!

The video has been kindly premiered by The Ransome Note - HERE

SOCCER96 - REWIND ASSEMBLY LINE VIDEO

Soccer96's new 12" vinyl release 'Rewind' is due on 18th May. The band have been busy lovingly hand-stamping and stencilling the covers in black as standard, with super limited colour versions available - gold, orange, blue, green. Here they are spraying the magic!

SOCCER96 - 'REWIND' 12" AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER

‘Rewind’ is the latest release from enigmatic synth and drums duo Soccer96, comprised of Danalogue [Dan Leavers] and Betamax [Max Hallett], and follows their acclaimed 2016 album ‘As Above So Below’. With a nod to the beat tape aesthetic, 'Rewind' is a collection of newly discovered reel to reel recordings, live mixed on a vintage ‘Alice’ mixing desk in the Soccer96 analogue lab.

Seamlessly segueing from polyrythmic psychedelic grooves to ambient synth pieces haunted by moments of mysterious tape bleed, 'Rewind' is a surreal, archaeological dig of a record, drenched in the sounds of degraded tape and analogue subtlety.

There will be a limited vinyl release of 300 records, lovingly hand stamped and stencilled by the band – in black and white as standard but with super limited colour versions available [gold, orange, blue and green].

Scheduled for release on 18th May 2018 but available for pre-order now!

CREWDSON - NEW VIDEO - 'CHILDREN'

Not content with making his own instruments, electronic maverick Crewdson also sometimes makes his own videos. This one a hypnotic take on a track from his brilliant album 'Toys', an effortless marriage of cutting edge electronic sonics with folk inspired song-form, lyrical ideas and instrumentation.

'Toys' is available on LP/CD and DL - INFO/LISTEN/BUY

"…Crewdson crafts skewed sonics that, frankly, boggle the mind; although, somehow, his music is as accessible as it is weird. On TOYS, Crewdson presents a matured sound, one that fuses pop elements with tumbling rhythms and mind-bending sound design." [XLR8R]

NEW RELEASE - ROBERT LOGAN - POP EP

New release from electronic producer, composer and musician Robert Logan. The five track 'Pop EP' is available for streaming and download at all the usual outlets but is exclusively available for 'name your price' from our Bandcamp site.

'Pop E.P' celebrates 10 years since the release of Robert Logan's first release, ‘Cognessence.’ At the time he was described as “…something of a prodigy… a man that is already showing a maturity and a musical/textural understanding that many simply never find” [BBC], with DJ Mag calling the album “the essential last word in electronic soundscapes.” The new E.P follows 2015's hyperactive ‘Flesh’ - “a musical object so radical and daring it seems not to belong to his time” [Trax] and its black ambient twin 'Flesh Decomposed’ and chronicles a contrasting path to either of them. Named after the eighth track of 'Cognessence', the new E.P recalls something of the directness of his first release and takes matters closer to the edge of the dancefloor.

Here Logan offers his take on a kind of pop music, though as ever increasingly unconventional means are utilised to reach somewhat more recognisable ends. Elaborate networks of feedback are harmonized to form the melodics on a number of cuts, giving even the most untwisted patterns a sense of metallic otherness, and throughout meticulous programming is fused with live dub techniques towards an interesting blend of old a new and a looser groove-orientated feel. 'Pop E.P' takes its name far enough to include special guest appearances from Morcheeba's Skye Edwards and Ross Godfrey on its first and final tracks and assimilates a range of established styles, including garage, hip hop and house – but ultimately is as free-spirited and idiosyncratic as any of Logan's best work.

CREWDSON - 'TOYS - BROKEN & REMIXED' - OUT NOW!

Toys - Broken + Remixed is the latest release from maverick electronic producer, composer, musician and instrument builder CREWDSON [aka Hugh Jones].

The EP follows on from the recent release of his sparkling and innovative second album 'Toys' - an effortless marriage of cutting edge electronic sonics with folk inspired song-form, lyrical ideas and instrumentation - which has received plaudits from the likes of Stuart Maconie [Freak Zone/BBC6], XLR8R, Clash, Exclaim!, Electronic Sound, Vice, Impose, Folk Radio, The Ransom Note, The Playground and more

…Crewdson crafts skewed sonics that, frankly, boggle the mind; although, somehow, his music is as accessible as it is weird. On TOYS, Crewdson presents a matured sound, one that fuses pop elements with tumbling rhythms and mind-bending sound design. [XLR8R]

'Toys - Broken + Remixed' features four remixes of tracks from the album book-ended by two quirky Crewdson interludes, out-takes which provide a teaser of his eccentric sound world.

One Little Indian signed producer/singer-songwriter s a r a s a r a remixes 'Funny Games', atomising the original and then reconstructing it into an eerie collage of sparse electronics and disembodied vocals, adding her own voice into the mix.

Synth and drums duo and label mates Soccer96 take the deliciously wonky 'Stanner Nab', re-wonk the groove and ride off into a psychedelic sunset with the repeating mantra "They can go fuck themselves..".

Sultan Shakes take 'Children' and deliver an addictive and oddball slice of minimal dance vibes and electronic producer Bambooman, currently receiving huge acclaim for his new album on Accidental, reworks 'Bottle Rain Smoke' to great effect, working a dreamy, naive and lysergic ambience around Crewdson's vocals.

"The producer's infectious charm remains, however, with Crewdson building an unexpected universe for the listener to dwell in." [Clash]

Crewdson

It’s been 5 years since producer, composer, musician and instrument builder Crewdson [aka Hugh Jones] released his debut album ‘Gravity’ via Slowfoot Records in 2011. When he announced his arrival with his 12” ‘Dust EP’ a few months earlier he was hailed as one to watch amongst his ╩╗post-dubstep╩╝ peers, “…blowing jazz and glitch into the vessels sails”, and both releases drew huge acclaim from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Clash, XLR8R, Time-Out, BBC, Future Sequence and The Fader to name but a few.

Inspired in name and sound by his myriad of self-created weird and wonderful hardware electronic musical instruments, Crewdson's much anticipated second album is effortless marriage of cutting edge electronic sonics with folk inspired song-form, lyrical ideas and instrumentation. 'Toys' is out on Slowfoot Records in July.

Bambooman

For those who know, Bambooman is one of the most sought after, probing, and distinctive voices in UK electronic music right now. The Yorkshire born producer’s catalogue builds into an aural mosaic, comprising everything from scrunched up hip-hop to techno deviance, all delivered with an impish sense of individuality. Yet now, after six meandering but inspired EPs, Bambooman is ready to break with all this and drop his debut album ‘Whispers’.

His live shows have seen him share stages with the likes of MF Doom, Madlib, Jon Hopkins and Venetian snares whilst he has collaborated on releases with UK rapper Jehst and vocalist Segilola. Bambooman's debut full length 'Whispers' is out on Accidental Records in August.

CREWDSON - NEW VIDEO 'BOTTLE RAIN SMOKE'

'BOTTLE RAIN SMOKE' is the new video release from electronic producer CREWDSON, taken from his much anticipated new album 'TOYS' due for release on July 14th.

The album's title references the quirky instruments he builds and performs on the album of which one is The Concertina which he uses to perform 'Bottle Rain Smoke'.

The video is premiered on The Creators Project/ Vice with an in depth feature on Crewdson and his instruments. Check the feature out HERE
