ROBERT LOGAN - Filmed live in the studio

Robert Logan performing 'Phrack' live in the studio with his live trio featuring Frank Byng on drums and Ben Cowen on keys. Taken from the album 'Flesh'

PRESCOTT w/ THE REMOTE VIEWERS - 22nd Nov

The Remote Viewers:
A rare appearance to launch their new CD 'November Sky'.
They will be playing material from the new release, plus a selection from their 'noir trilogy', and more. With John Edwards, Sue Lynch, Caroline Kraabel, David Petts, Adrian Northover and David Stockard.

Prescott:
When Prescott released their highly acclaimed album ‘One Did’ in 2014 they consisted of bassist, Kev Hopper (Stump) Keyboardist, Rhodri Marsden (Scritti Politti) and drummer, Frank Byng (Snorkel).
Now they have added guitarist, Keith Moline (Pere Ubu) to the ranks making them something of a SUPERGROUP. They play minimal, angular, mechanical riffs with twangy guitar melodies riding the bumpy landscape. The effect is startling and joyous.

ROBERT LOGAN - 'FLESH' OUT NOW!

ROBERT LOGAN -
FLESH [SLOCD026]

"The album's velocity has the stability of a high-wire walker, but despite outbreaks to the contrary, Logan's ammunition isn't stuck on autofire. Methodical pincer movements puncture sceneries like balloons, and Logan layers technology like a game of skyscraper-high Jenga ('Photovoltaics')… …Logan is out for his pound of 'Flesh', and once again comes back quids in. 8/10" [Clash]

'Flesh, his third album, a musical object so radical and daring it seems not to belong to his time.' [Trax]

"meticulously produced, methodical and brilliant." [Igloo Magazine]

"Flesh is like a lot of things, and yet it has a personality, a usefulness, a quality all to itself. Recommended." [Louder Than War]

"If you haven’t heard his work yet, you’re in for a treat." [Space and Sound]

"Flesh is a great work in not only atmospherics but deep composition relying not on conventional elements so much as the fine detailed placement of found sounds, rhythms and treated instruments. Highly recommended." [Igloo Magazine]

"…a challenging but ultimately rewarding listen; initially jolting yet meditative, the shadows it creates lure you into an all-encompassing world of unsettling dreams and hallucinogenic scenes. This is uncomfortable in a manner that intrigues and delights as much as it scares – go on, I dare you." [Digital Fix]

"Flesh exemplifies a conspicuous degree of confidence and assurance. What's particularly noteworthy is that, although the hour-long collection draws upon myriad styles, among them IDM, funk, folk, classical, and electronica, Logan fuses them fluidly such that no one style asserts itself to the exclusion of others." PHALL FATALE - NEW SINGLE RELEASE - 'THE GIRL, THE BEAT' - 14/9/15

PHALL FATALE
THE GIRL, THE BEAT

Phall Fatale are a truly extraordinary grouping of instruments and musicians. Up front are two women, Joy Frempong (OY, Filewile etc.) and Joana Aderi (Sissy Fox, Eiko) whose voices have the power to freeze the blood in our veins and who also perform keyboards and electronics. Lined up behind them are the two double bassists, John Edwards (Robert Wyatt, Mulatu Astatke and many others) and Daniel Sailer (Frachter, Pol) whose contrasting styles make for a truly subtle and exciting blend. Centre stage at the back we find drummer extraordinaire Fredy Studer (Koch-Schütz-Studer, Doran-Stucky-Studer-Tacuma and many others). His percussive range is incredible. Tender and melodic one moment, thunderous and hard the next, he is both foundation and ornament to Phall Fatale’s unique sound.

Their music bridges the gap between song and improvisation, between pop and experimental. The individual voices of the singers merge with strident electronic sequences into the organic powerhouse of the two double basses and drums. Powerful hardcore packets of groove and spoken word are juxtaposed with meditative soundscapes that tell stories.

'The Girl, The Beat' is the single and first track from their forthcoming second album 'Moonlit Bang Bang' [15th Jan 2016 - Slowfoot Records] and sees the group deliver, with the help of producer Roli Mosimann [The Swans, New Order, That Petrol Emotion], a delicious slice of alt-pop with its sly commentary on the fashion world. The single will be accompanied by a video.

Available on Itunes, Juno and more...

PHALL FATALE - 'THE GIRL, THE BEAT' - VIDEO PREMIERE

New signing PHALL FATALE have released a new single entitled  'THE GIRL, THE BEAT'.
The single is taken from their forthcoming album 'Moonlit Bang Bang' [scheduled for release on 15th Jan 2016 on vinyl and cd] and is also accompanied by a video which has been premiered by The Monitors.

See what they have to say here -
The Monitors video premiere - Phall Fatale - 'The Girl, The Beat'

"Not enough bands use double basses... ...Well, it might be because Phall Fatale have got ‘em all. The Switzerland-based five-piece boast not one but two (two!) double bassists, one of whom is also listed on their website as playing, mysteriously, ‘devices’. Ooooh. They put them to good use too, with Phall Fatale exploiting an impressive and diverse collective musical CV (members of the band have played with the likes of John Zorn, Mulatu Astatke and Urbaniak) to service their slick and sophisticated avant-pop.

They’ve also conceived a fine visual counterpoint to their music, as evidenced in the video to their track ‘The Girl The Beat’, which we’re proud to premiere today. A hilarious, Almodóvar-inspired satire on the fashion industry starring a preening model and a pair of overly attentive stylists, it’s as elegantly directed as the magazine shoots it sends up. In fact, it’s as beautifully polished as the track itself, a subtle, percussive take on electro-pop that sits somewhere between Hot Chip and Barbara Morgenstern." [The Monitors]

ROBERT LOGAN - EXTASIS EP - OUT NOW!!!

ROBERT LOGAN -
EXTASIS EP [DL]

"The young and musically sensational Robert Logan is another name to add onto that list, creating sophisticated electronic music of advanced structures and sublime tonality, balancing his music between advanced grids of compositions, layering and transitions, running through an exploratory journey of the new that has timeless written all over it…. …The music on this record is stunning."
[Sound Colour Vibration]

"Logan’s finally back and he’s certainly just as striking." [DJ Mag]

"Robert Logan’s Extasis EP is like a short journey into a very strange land populated by broken machines, ravaged landscapes and an indefinable agent of anxiety pervading its darker corners… …This EP is a good listen for dark nights and darker times." [Igloo Magazine]

PRESCOTT GIG WITH WOVEN ENTITY- 2/4/15

WOVEN ENTITY + PRESCOTT
+ Music To Ease Your Disease DJs

@ Total Refreshment Centre

2a Farleigh Place,
London N16 7SX

time - 8pm
price - £6 on the door

Percussion rich, spiritually inclined cosmic jazz built around the
percussive talents of Lascelle Gordon, Patrick Dawes, Paul May and Pete
Marsh. Support from art-rock trio Prescott, brainchild of former Stump
bassist Kev Hopper, with Rhodri Marsden [Scritti Politti] on keys and Frank
Byng [Snorkel] on drums.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
WOVEN ENTITY

WOVEN ENTITY are a unique proposition. Built round the percussive talents of
Patrick Dawes, Lascelle Gordon and Paul May (whose credits range from Groove
Armada to Beth Orton to The Brand New Heavies to Alexander Hawkins), they
offer a wholly improvised and extremely rich stew of spiritual afro jazz,
dubby post punk, lo-fi electronics and eccentric ethnological forgeries.
Comparisons have been made to Sun Ra, The Art Ensemble of Chicago and Can,
to name but three. Bassist Peter Marsh and rising star saxophonist Julie
Kjaer complete the lineup. The band had their first CD released by Babel
Label in September.

PRESCOTT

PRESCOTT is the brainchild of former Stump bassist Kev Hopper, who's
distinctive bass style was one of the most striking elements of the band's
sound during the 1980s. Alongside Hopper is Rhodri Marsden [Scritti Politti]
on keys and Frank Byng [Snorkel] on drums. Jabbing heteroclite riffs,
circular rhythmic patterns, vibrating harmonic clashes, irregular note
intervals, all contrasted with pockets of beautiful melody. The bands debut
album 'One Did' was released last year on Slowfoot Records.

"...a tantalising glimpse of what's in store if Hopper continues this
joyously wayward course." [Prog Magazine]

"Prescott make music that is hilarious as it is infuriating." [The Wire]

"SAs far as British-politician-themed art-rock bands go, Prescott are a
unique and mischievous proposition." [The List]

"For sheer verve this will be a tough album to beat - by turns odd, melodic,
exciting." [Terrascope Rumbles]

"Best band in the world...ever!" [John Prescott]

CRACKLE GIG - 28/3/15

MONKEY PUZZLE TRIO + ROSHI - Servants Jazz Quarters - 22nd November

SATURDAY 22nd NOVEMBER
@ SERVANT JAZZ QUARTERS

MONKEY PUZZLE TRIO + ROSHI

10A Bradbury St
London N16 8JN

Tel - 0207 684 8411
time - 8pm

Monkey Puzzle Trio features This Heat lynchpin Charles Hayward on drums, keys and melodica, bassist Nick Doyne-Ditmas and the words, voice and textures of avant-vocalist Viv Corringham, whose music walks a tightrope between song, improvisation and sound-as-sound.

"Their second album 'The Pattern Familiar' is an improvised song cycle that pushes the very notion of the song to the extreme. Hayward hooks into motorik rhythms that are relaxed yet deliberate and Nick Doyne-Ditmas lays out reverberant, drifting moans, with overdubbed horns hinting at structure, over which Corringham's pursues a range of techniques, from cool Brion Gysin-esque wordplay to looped and multilayered operatic wails." [The Wire]

ROSHI

Born in Wales to Iranian parents, Roshi Nasehi is a singer-songwriter who presents her own evocative songs alongside sometimes quite radical interpretations of some of the Iranian songs she was brought up listening to. Mixmag described Roshi as "One of the most singular voices working at the moment”.

PRESCOTT @ THE VORTEX - 21st Nov

PRESCOTT [Finn Peters Curates...]
Friday 21st November @ The Vortex, London

12pm-2am

Info/Tickets
http://www.vortexjazz.co.uk/event/late-sessions-finn-peters-curates-2/

Part of a series of late night sessions curated by Finn Peters [The Grip] for the
London Jazz Festival.

Prescott is the brainchild of former Stump bassist Kev Hopper, who's distinctive
bass style was one of the most striking elements of the band's sound during the
1980s. Alongside Hopper is Rhodri Marsden [Scritti Politti] on keys and Frank
Byng
[Snorkel] on drums. They recently released their debut ‘One Did’ to
Critical acclaim.

"Prescott make music that is hilarious as it is infuriating. Hopper's bouncing twang
grabs hold of Byng's metronomic dub-funk rhythms, with Marsden adding tight
slashes of discordant electric piano and crumpled clavichord scrunches… neatly
positioning Prescott - and Slowfoot - in a fictional and slightly skewed parallel
universe where wayward British eccentrics lurk at every turn."
[The Wire]

Sonic Navigations - The Grip + CoN and KwAkE + Micachu [DJ Set] - 18th Nov

Part of the London Jazz Festival, Sonic Navigation is a new project, conceived by
Finn Peters, which aims to explore the lineage of improvised music referencing
those 60’s and 70’s jazz recordings that influence live hip-hop, spoken word
and contemporary jazz.

The Grip
This playful, freewheeling and energetic trio is comprised of three of Europe’s
most in demand and respected jazz musicians. Joining Finn Peters on flutes
and sax, we have the highly individual playing of Oren Marshall (Sons of Kemet)
on tuba and Tom Skinner (Melt Yourself Down, Owiny Sigoma Band) on drums.

"…one of the city's hottest propositions. Their debut album Celebrate, out now on
Slowfoot Records, takes the group through knotty free-bop, deep blues and Middle
Eastern drones in a deft mix of free playing and compositional ingenuity."

[The Quietus]

CoN & KwAkE
Hip-hop duo who have recently performed alongside the likes of Mos Def & MF
Doom. MC Confucius is the cerebral lyricist rapping with Kwake Bass on drums,
samples and production.

Micachu -
DJ sets from a highly creative and original musician & composer (Micachu & the
Shapes) who knows no musical boundaries. ‘Micachu is so far ahead of the game
it hurts’
